Edward Mikaelian

Assistant Girl's Team Coach

Edward has been involved in gymnastics since 1960, competing in the 1967 international competition "Druzhba" (Friendship Meet) between the countries of the USSR in Cuba, and received 1st place among youth. From 1966 until 1976, Edward was a member of the USSR gymnastics team. He was the silver medalist in the Games of the USSR Nations, the Silver medalist in the XX Olympic games in Germany in 1972, and the Silver medalist in the World Games in Varna, Bulgaria in 1974. He is a Master of Sport at the International level.

Edward graduated from the Institute of Physical Culture in 1973. He began coaching gymnastics in 1976 and is coaching today at International Gymnastics Centre, in West Sacramento, California. Edward was the coach of the Armenian team (USSR) from 1978 till 1990. His eight gymnasts became Masters of Sport of the International Level, winning 168 Gold, 108 Silver, and 65 Bronze medals. His team completed in England in the World Championships in 1993, and Edward coached the European champion in 1994.

Edward has been an International Class Judge since 1977, and has been coaching in America since 1995. During 1995-1996 Edward worked at World Star Gymnastics. His gymnasts completed in the USA Gymnastics National Championships. He coached Level 4 through Level 10 gymnasts at Pozar's Gymnastics from 1996-2000 (including Level 10 gymnasts Christy Teuman, Alisan Chan, Tiffany Chan , Karma Rey, and Julia Genrike). Edward worked at Miyagi Gymnastics from 2000 till 2002, and then again at Pozar's Gymnastics until 2006.

Presently, Edward coaches Boys' and Girls Developmental Teams at International Gymnastics Centre.
